Pizza Time in Tropical Hideaway: Pizza Project

Work has been extremely stressful so I needed to get away for the weekend. Although it is very tough to get away during these times. However, I found the perfect solution that would allow me to stay safe in a great getaway.

Tropical Hideaway

I’m sure everyone knows about Airbnb but I just found out about a similar site called Vrbo. My criteria originally were to find a place where I would get the entire place to myself and to have a pool. However, it was hard to find a place that satisfied all of these criteria that was also a reasonable price.

In the end, I had to settle with a place in North Tustin that felt like a tropical hideaway. I stayed at the guest house which was the perfect size for myself and if I do return then one or two others. The reason I ended up picking this place was that the owner said I would be the only one using the pool. After I found out that I knew this was the place for me. I think the only way to make this place even better is by doing a Happy Hour Adventure.

Mai Tai

To get things started I had picked up this nice small glass-bottled cocktail by On The Rocks. I’ve have had the Cosmopolitan by them and I thought it was very tasty. So I thought why not try the Mai Tai version since I do love a good Mai Tai. My take was that this was a very strong drink! It took me quite a while to finish it but I preferred it to the canned Mai Tai I had during my Red Robin Adventure. For $7 I’d say this is quite the deal!

Mojo Potato Wedges

The first appetizer of this Adventure involved some Mojo Potato Wedges. I’m not sure why they are called Mojo Potatoes but from what I found was the term was created by Shakey’s Pizza which I’ve never had. I’m not the biggest potato wedge fan just because I enjoy how french fries get crispy because they are skinnier than wedges.

Cheesy Stix

Luckily the second appetizer was a great redeemer to the previous one. That is because when you take bread and cheese you get cheese sticks or as it’s called on the menu Cheesy Stix. These Cheesy Stix were covered in butter, mozzarella, and parmesan cheese. Finished off with a little oregano to add some extra Italian flair. However, this is might be a dish that you should have only once in a while because having cheese, butter, and bread may not be the healthiest thing.

Pizza Montage

Now to the main entree of the night and the whole reason for the name of this Adventure, pizza! Pizza Project is similar to Pizza Press where you can pick as many toppings as you want. It is my responsibility to let you know everything I chose to have topped on this beautiful pizza. Sweet banana peppers, spicy chicken, salami, roasted garlic, red onions, pepperoni, minced garlic, jalapeños, hot sausage, green peppers, green onions, cilantro, Canadian bacon, bacon bits, arugula, shredded mozzarella, ricotta, parmesan, fresh mozzarella balls, garlic butter, buffalo hot sauce, and red sauce. Was it a little extreme to get all of these toppings? Maybe. But I thought everything melded together perfectly. I probably could have gone without a few ingredients like the Canadian bacon. I ordered the Canadian bacon thinking it was candied bacon which would have added a sweet and salty flavor profile.

So you may be wondering how on earth could this be considered Happy Hour with all of this food? Well, it was the very last day for a DashPass deal where you could get $15 off no matter the order. So I was able to get all of this food for $8 before tip! If that isn’t a great deal I don’t know what else is.

I had quite a few ingredients on my pizza so I have this question. Would you keep toppings to a minimum or would you load it up?

Let me know down below in the comments and be sure to share with friends and family that would enjoy this Happy Hour.

May the adventures continue! Cheers!

  1. As long as the ingredients go together, I'm all for loading it up! They have to match though. We have a place here called MOD pizza where u can add endless toppings. I have gone to town there before, but I'm sure they're annoyed at me cuz I took forever deciding what to pair together.
