Another Takeout Happy Hour: Ten Asian Bistro

I was consumed at work on the second half of my Friday that I ended up working through lunch. Honestly, the whole week was very busy, so I decided to leave slightly early. And by leave, I meant to get off my computer from my home office. I decided to start calling places to find my next Happy Hour Adventure for takeout! The first place I called, no one was answering, which is very sad to see. The second place had switched to a limited menu, so they couldn’t do Happy Hour even if they wanted to. Then came my third call…

Cherry Blossoms with the Restaurant

So they actually said they weren’t going to be able to do it originally, but they were offering 20% off on all call-in orders. Which is a great deal, but I said I’d keep on calling around. I was on the verge of calling the next place when they called me back. They said they asked a higher power and they would honor the Happy Hour if I came to pick it up.

The entrance

Ten Asian Bistro was my saving grace for this Happy Hour Adventure! I was starving, so I put in my order for two food items and headed on over. This restaurant is located right next to Bosscat and is owned by the same owner. Two very different style restaurants right next to each other. Someone could get their Old Fashioned at Bosscat and walk right next door to grab some Sushi.

The dining area

The restaurant has such high ceilings, which just makes the restaurant, so much more substantial in size. Of course, you have the giant Budhha statue as the main icon of the restaurant. The only part of the restaurant that was lit up was the Sushi Bar and the light in the kitchen. Might as well save some energy when you can. I didn’t take a picture of it, but the bar was in complete darkness which made me quite heartbroken. What is usually the life of Happy Hours has been disbanded for now. But, that is not going to stop me from safely going on my Adventures.

Tamper-Resistant Delivery Bag

Again I am sorry about not having a picture of the menu, but please refer to the link at the end of the Adventure to see what they are serving up. As you can see Ten Asian Bistro really cares about the health and safety of its customers. They put all of the food in a tamper-resistant bag, which is even sealed at the top. It is definitely tough to pull it open with your hands alone, so go for those trusty scissors of yours at home.

Sushi in To Go containers

I actually quite liked the packaging that the sushi was presented in, so I decided to get my photos as one would truly see them. As you can see I went for two different types of sushi and my stomach was demanding me to get some food in it. One can not disappoint their stomach.

Nifty Soy Sauce Container

Before I get into the food I just wanted to really applaud Ten Asian Bistro for this wonderful soy sauce holder. Most places when you get sushi to go, one tends to have to just pour it somewhere in the corner of the to-go box or find their own little container at home. Of course, Since I enjoy the spicier things in life I had to throw in that wasabi that they provided.

MacArthur Roll as a whole

I present to you the MacArthur Roll. Why is it called the MacArthur roll you may ask? Well, it is quite simple. The restaurant is located on MacArthur Boulevard. Nothing more. This wonderful roll was topped with tempura flakes to give it a bit of crunch. The little plastic grass display is a little cheesy to me. But it serves its purpose by separating the pickled ginger and wasabi away from the roll.

Inside the MacArthur

Now for an inside peek of the roll. One can see the vibrant red of the spicy tuna that is calling my name. Plus you have the green of the avocado embracing the spicy tuna as well. In another sauce container, that was loose in the bag, was the eel sauce meant for this sushi roll. Which I did not know at first, so I didn’t get a chance to experience the sushi roll as it was meant to be enjoyed. The flavor was spot on with the creaminess of the avocado helps to offset the spiciness of the spicy tuna.

Cajun Albacore

My second sushi order was left to the recommendation of one of three of the $7 sushis. There was one that I really wanted, but I just wanted to hear what they suggested. And luckily for me, she said her favorite was the cajun albacore, the one I desired. The albacore is slightly seared with the amazing cajun seasoning surrounding it. Then it is topped with crispy onions to add a little crunch and some added flavor. Everything about this sushi is amazing. I love the texture of the tuna itself and that cajun seasoning really makes the dish unique. However, we can’t forget about the ponzu dipping sauce to the side. It really added a bit of salty and sweetness to the dish.

That soy sauce dunk

Another shortened Adventure to say the least. While signing the check I was able to at least talk to them for a bit. I believe it was the manager saying that it was pretty clever of me to ask around for Happy Hours in the area. He said that I was more than welcome to call back and ask for it again. I told him I would for sure come back when they are allowed to start serving in the restaurant again. Because they had some amazing sounding cocktails on their Happy Hour that I really wanted to try. I may get the experience to try it before they open for dine-in again. I read and posted an article on the OC Happy Hour Adventures Facebook page, which said restaurants will be able to start selling cocktails to go! I’ve actually seen quite a few places starting to do it, so who knows. On my next Adventure, you may see me sipping on a handcrafted cocktail from the comfort of my home.

Overall:
Honestly, I am going to be giving any restaurant that I go to for take-out a 5 out of 5 on service because they are the ones still providing food in these times. They are finding ways to make sure their employees and patrons are staying safe and healthy. This is the most important thing they can do during the age of COVID-19.
On another note since this Adventure was all about sushi. What is your favorite type of sushi to get?
Let me know down below in the comments and be sure to share with friends and family that would enjoy this Happy Hour.
May the adventures continue! Cheers!
